Intraseasonal Sea Ice Concentration Variability Over the Weddell Sea During Austral Autumn

نویسندگان

چکیده

The sea ice concentration (SIC) over the Weddell Sea displays obvious intraseasonal variability during austral autumn with a dominant frequency of 5–20 days. SIC is manifested as development anomalies from northeastern Antarctic Peninsula toward central Sea. Rossby wave train associated internal atmospheric featuring circumglobal zonal wavenumber 4 pattern induces anomalous surface winds and drifting, leading to directly. thermodynamical processes include air temperature, moisturizing lower troposphere, latent sensible heating, downwelling longwave radiation, which contribute variation local greenhouse effect Sea, thus lead variation. investigation helps understanding sea-ice-atmosphere interaction region.

Copepods in sea ice of the western Weddell Sea during austral spring 2004

In the framework of the R.V. Polarstern expedition ‘‘Ice station POLarstern’’ (ISPOL) spatial and temporal trends in composition, abundance and age structure of sea ice inhabiting copepods were investigated in the western Weddell Sea during the transition from the spring to the summer state. For the spatial scale, sea-ice coring was performed at six locations on a transect from the ice edge to ...

Interannual Variability in Weddell Sea Ice from Ers Wind Scatterometer

ERS-1/2 SAR and Wind Scatterometer data are analyzed together with DMSP SSM/I microwave radiometer data to investigate interannual variability in Weddell Sea ice and summer melt signatures during the period 1992-1997. Simultaneous SAR and Scatterometer images were obtained during a February 1995 cruise of the H.M.S. Endurance and aerial photographs collected for validation of the satellite obse...

Decadal change in intraseasonal variability over the South China Sea

[1] Evidence is presented to reveal a decadal change around mid-1990s in the behavior of intraseasonal variability (ISV) over the South China Sea (SCS). During 1979–1993, the ISV has a spectral peak around 64 days, which is longer than in the recent epoch of 1994–2007 (around 42 days). The ISV event in 1979–1993 involves a merging process of the northward and westward propagating convection ano...

Predicting Summer Arctic Sea Ice Concentration Intraseasonal Variability Using a Vector Autoregressive Model*

Recent Arctic sea ice changes have important societal and economic impacts and may lead to adverse effects on the Arctic ecosystem, weather, and climate. Understanding the predictability of Arctic sea ice melting is thus an important task. A vector autoregressive (VAR) model is evaluated for predicting the summertime (May–September) daily Arctic sea ice concentration on the intraseasonal time s...
